SMFM and SOGH Announce Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Hospital-Based Obstetric Care
The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) and the Society of OB/GYN Hospitalists (SOGH) are pleased to announce a focused commitment to our partnership that prioritizes the advancement of hospital-based obstetric care across the United States. This collaboration unites two leading organizations with a shared mission: improving maternal and neonatal outcomes through evidence-based, team-driven, and patient-centered care.
As the complexity of obstetric care continues to grow—driven by escalating maternal morbidity, persistent health disparities, increasing maternal health care deserts, and escalating resource challenges—the need for expert, readily available care has never been greater. Recognizing this critical need, SMFM and SOGH are committed to our partnership which promotes a cohesive, multidisciplinary approach to hospital-based care. This alliance is designed to drive improvements in safety, equity, and quality within labor and delivery units nationwide.
Recognizing our increasingly fragmented healthcare delivery, our guiding principles will center on productive teamwork, evidence-based care models tailored to diverse community needs, supporting collaborative professional relationships, and unified advocacy for patient-centered outcomes.
SMFM and SOGH remain steadfast in their commitment to strengthening systems of care for all birthing people, especially those with high-risk conditions or limited access to care. Together, we are proud to be taking this significant step toward ensuring that every patient receives safe, equitable, and evidence-based care during one of life’s most critical moments. We are excited to share more details of this ongoing work with our members in the coming months.
