Sutter Health is seeking Board Certified/Board Eligible OB/GYN physicians for hospitalist opportunities across the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco, Berkeley, and Castro Valley.
These opportunities range from flexible per diem practice to established full-time hospitalist programs. Across the region, physicians can expect collaborative teams, advanced hospital resources, strong specialist support, and opportunities to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care.
Current Opportunities
San Francisco – Per Diem OB/GYN Hospitalist
Sutter West Bay Medical Group is seeking an OB/GYN Hospitalist to join the team at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
This flexible per diem opportunity is ideal for physicians seeking a hospitalist practice with a mix of 12- and 24-hour shifts. Hospitalists provide full-scope obstetric care for the community and work alongside general OB/GYN physicians and midwives in a collaborative, team-based environment.
The program is supported by a Level 3+ NICU with in-house neonatology, anesthesia, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Physicians also benefit from access to Sutter’s expansive multispecialty physician network and opportunities for leadership and program growth.
Berkeley – OB Hospitalist
Sutter East Bay Medical Group is seeking a full-time OB Hospitalist physician to join a collaborative team at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley. Flexible FTE options from 0.5 to 1.0 are available.
Alta Bates is a high-volume referral center for high-risk obstetrics, delivering approximately 5,000 babies annually. The hospital features 24 LDRP rooms, three labor and delivery ORs, an eight-bed OB triage area, a 14-bed antepartum unit, a 55-bed Level III NICU, in-house neonatology, two in-house OB anesthesiologists, and 24/7 access to perinatology and interventional radiology.
Hospitalists provide delivery attendance, OB triage, patient evaluation and management, surgical and OB delivery assistance, fetal monitoring, and ED coverage. The team includes two hospitalists and one midwife in-house 24/7, with backup hospitalist support available.
Castro Valley – OB/GYN Hospitalist
Join the OB/GYN Hospitalist Program at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where physicians provide 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage in a collegial, team-based environment.
The role includes delivery attendance, OB triage, patient evaluation and management, surgical and OB delivery assistance, fetal monitoring, ED coverage for OB and GYN patients, gynecologic consultation, and urgent or emergent gynecologic surgery.
Physicians collaborate with local obstetricians and have access to Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists at Sutter’s nearby Berkeley hospital for high-risk and preterm patient transfers.
Eden Medical Center is the regional trauma center for Southern Alameda County and features five labor and delivery rooms, two triage beds, a labor and delivery OR, 12 postpartum beds, a Level I-II NICU, in-house pediatric hospitalist coverage, and 24/7 anesthesia support.
Castro Valley – Per Diem OB/GYN Hospitalist
For physicians seeking greater flexibility, Eden Medical Center also offers a per diem OB/GYN Hospitalist opportunity.
This position provides the same collaborative 24/7 hospitalist model, with responsibility for delivery attendance, OB triage, patient management, surgical and delivery assistance, fetal monitoring, ED coverage, gynecologic consultation, and urgent/emergent gynecologic surgery.
The program is supported by in-house pediatric hospitalists, anesthesia, trauma surgery, emergency medicine, adult medicine hospitalists, and other clinical resources.

Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Active and unrestricted California medical license, or eligibility to obtain one
- Current DEA license where required
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

Compensation: Competitive compensation ranging from $182.02-$205.78 per hour, depending on location, schedule, and employment arrangement. Additional incentives may apply.
