Leading the future of health care
Kaiser Permanente / The Permanente Medical Group
The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. (TPMG – Kaiser Permanente Northern California) is one of the largest medical groups in the nation with over 10,000 physicians, 21 medical centers, numerous clinics throughout Northern and Central California, and an 80-year tradition of providing quality medical care. We currently have the following opportunities:
OB/GYN HOSPITALISTS
Openings in Modesto, Redwood City, Roseville, and San Francisco, California
- Modesto: Our hospitalists typically work between 0.8 to 1.0 FTE, which translates to an average of three 12-hour shifts each week. These shifts are a combination of night (8 PM to 8 AM) and day (8 AM to 8 PM) hours. Hospitalists usually work one weekend per month. While performing emergent gynecological cases, such as ectopics and D&Cs, is optional, they are expected to conduct ER consultations for gynecological patients. At any given time, there are always at least two doctors on call. Most shifts consist of two MDs/DOs and two midwives; however, if a midwife calls out sick, there may be three MDs/DOs and one midwife on duty. Please note that we do not have OB residents; we only have occasional ER residents rotating through, as well as medical students.
- Redwood City: We currently have a contract opportunity to work 24 hours per week. The weekday shifts are from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, weeknight shifts are from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am, and weekend shifts are 8:00 am – 8:00 pm or 8:00 pm – 8:00 am. The expectation is that weekends and nights will be at least 50% of the assigned shifts. There may be opportunities to work more hours pending departmental operational needs. The hospital does about 160 deliveries per month. There is 24 hr. doctor and CNM team in house. Shifts will include ED consults and consultations from other hospital based teams. There is a back-up call system in place when more doctors are needed for patient care.
- Roseville: We are a collaborative OB team of Hospitalists, Generalists, and Midwives. L&D shifts are 12 hours with flexible scheduling opportunities. Our team cares for patients in Labor and Delivery/Postpartum, ED and cross covers for inpatient GYN patients. Hospitalists lead a team of fellow physicians and midwives to manage L&D duties and assist Perinatologist with antepartum management. All shifts are with fellow physicians and midwives, and we are fully supported with the network of a large hospital, including a full time in-house Ob Anesthesia team and a level III NICU. Our staff is involved in education and teaching of UC Davis ObGyn residents and Kaiser Family Medicine residents along with medical students. We aim to have a Hospitalist on all shifts to provide continuity of care for patient safety. Hospitalists are expected to be leaders on L&D, as they provide obstetric expertise and psychological safety to their team. They are highly valued and integrated into our larger Ob/GYN physician team.
- San Francisco: We are seeking a dedicated, skilled OBGYN Hospitalist to join our team. This is a 0.9 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) position primarily focused on Labor & Delivery. Majority of time will be spent in the hospital with opportunities for some outpatient clinic work. Schedule: Includes some day, night, and weekend shifts. Please note that the expectation is for about 3-4 weekend shifts per month, if full-time hospitalist.
