Full-Time OB/GYN Physician Hospitalist and Midwife Hospitalist Wanted in Phoenix, Arizona

The OB/GYN Hospitalist Team at a tertiary care maternity hospital in the Phoenix, AZ area have openings for one full-time OB/GYN physician and one certified nurse midwife to join their team.  These individuals should be compassionate, team-oriented, energetic, and enthusiastic about improving patient safety at all levels of hospitalization.

It is highly desired that the physician candidate have experience as an OB/GYN Hospitalist caring for high-risk obstetric patients and performing emergency GYN surgeries while being board-certified.

The midwife candidate should ideally have either experience working as a hospital midwife and/or as an L&D nurse at a high-risk maternity hospital or both.  A Cesarean First Assist certificate from the American College of Nurse Midwives (the 10-hour course) is also necessary but can be completed upon signing.

The service is covered 24/7 by the physician and midwife working together to care for all of their patients, within their respective scopes.  Most shifts are 24 hours long (one or two 12hr shifts per month may be required) and full-time is the equivalent of 7 or 7.5 24-hour shifts per month.  Competitive salary and benefits are provided.

Responsibilities include:

• Working closely with MFM physicians to accept high-risk OB transports and to take care of a busy inpatient antepartum service
• Providing obstetric and gynecologic care for unassigned patients
• Caring for pregnant trauma patients in the ED with the trauma and ED teams
• Supporting our private OB/GYN physicians with precipitous deliveries and emergency situations
• Providing consults as requested by medicine hospitalists, ED physicians, and other specialists
• Performing emergency GYN surgeries (Physician Only)
• Assisting during emergency C-Sections when usual first assists are not available or en route
• Participating in hospital and system wide safety and quality initiatives
