In 2019, collaboration was strengthened as an integrated, comprehensive healthcare resource under the MarinHealth banner. MarinHealth has a strategic alliance with UCSF to provide advanced care in Marin, in special programs in the Medical Center. All of the MarinHealth Medical Network Clinics are also part of UCSF Health extending access to additional expert physicians and providers, advanced treatments and technology, and a common commitment to provide outstanding care for patients —body, mind, and spirit. Together, they constitute an unmatched Healing Place for the community.
MarinHealth Medical Center
MarinHealth Medical Center is a 327-bed independent hospital with deep roots in the community. They have been meeting the healthcare needs of the North Bay in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area since first opening their doors as Marin General Hospital in 1952. The hospital has grown right along with the community. A 116- bed addition was built in 1961. In 1981, Cedar Pavilion was opened. To keep up with the North Bay’s burgeoning population and meet California’s latest earthquake safety standards, Oak Pavilion, a 260,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art new hospital replacement building, was introduced in Fall 2020.
As the only full-service, acute care hospital in Marin County, MarinHealth Medical Center provides comprehensive care across all major service lines. The Level III trauma center and emergency department receives 70% of the County’s ambulance traffic, and provides life-saving care for stroke and heart attack patients. They also offer the only hospital-based labor and delivery unit in Marin County. The community’s patients count on the Medical Center for advanced medical expertise, technology, and sophisticated treatments in an exceptional healing environment. In keeping with their commitment of treating the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—they also offer patients the opportunity to complement their medical treatment with integrative therapies at their Integrative Wellness Center.
The Women’s and Children’s Department consists of 4 units including Labor and Delivery, Family-Centered Maternity, Level II Intermediate Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; and Pediatrics. All units operate
24 hours per day, 7 days per week. There are 22 licensed perinatal beds serving labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum functions. The Level II Intermediate Neonatal ICU has 8 licensed beds – 2 intensive, 4 intermediate and 2 continuing care beds. The Pediatrics Unit has 14 licensed beds. The independently contracted OB/GYN Hospitalist will cover a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month (mix of weekend day and night shifts and weekday nights), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
MarinHealth Medical Center has the County’s ONLY Labor and Delivery services and performs approximately 110 monthly deliveries. The Medical Center has partnered with local obstetricians and midwives to ensure all patients have the opportunity to choose the kind of labor and delivery care they desire, with around-the-clock support services such as anesthesia, pediatrics, specialized nursing care, and perinatology. The goal of the Family Birth Center is to offer every woman a birth experience that’s in line with her individual, cultural, and philosophical preferences. The Medical Center partners with University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) for high-risk pregnancy consults.
As a district hospital owned by Marin Healthcare District, MarinHealth Medical Center answers only to the community they serve. This gives the hospital the flexibility to plan care that truly addresses their community needs. Building on a decades-long relationship, MarinHealth and UCSF Health have formed a strategic alliance that expands access to high-quality clinical care in Marin County and throughout the North Bay.
